China Unicom and Huawei power robot games with 5G A

The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games commenced at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the Ice Ribbon. This event serves as a real-world validation of 5G's potential in robotics and embodied AI, with China Unicom Beijing and Huawei setting up an integrated digital foundation powered by a 5G-A GigaUplink network. The network facilitates intelligent event operations, robot competition, and a captivating spectator experience.

China Unicom's network deployment in Beijing forms part of a region-wide GigaUplink network, providing secure and reliable connectivity for various cultural, AI, and mobile applications. For the 2026 Games, there are 1,301 competitions in 51 events involving 2,056 humanoid robots from 666 teams worldwide. This year's events include high-intensity matches like table tennis and kickboxing, as well as scenario-based competitions in real-world settings such as industrial production, hotels, homes, and logistics.

The advanced network infrastructure supports real-time robot telemetry, precise control signaling, and multi-robot coordination, with a dedicated 100 MHz network and a 300 MHz LampSite ultra-wideband indoor network. By integrating with BeiDou RTK positioning, the solution achieves decimeter- to sub-decimeter-level positioning accuracy, enabling autonomous navigation and precise obstacle avoidance.

Spectators benefit from optimized network resources and service assurance policies, allowing seamless interaction and real-time sharing of highlights. China Unicom has also developed the first embodied AI robot management platform, providing event staff with real-time monitoring of robot locations, competition status, and operational metrics.

The network deployment serves as a test for China Unicom's capabilities and aims to accumulate valuable experience for the large-scale deployment of embodied AI.
