Cameroon’s Baleba joins Man United to boost midfield options

Cameroon's Carlos Baleba has joined English Premier League club Manchester United from Brighton and Hove Albion, the club announced on Tuesday. The 22-year-old midfielder is the third signing by the Red Devils during the summer transfer window. Manchester United confirmed the signing, subject to registration, in a statement. The reported £70 million fee brings United's total spending on midfield reinforcements for the window to over £150 million.

Baleba's addition strengthens the new-look midfield alongside Youri Tielemans (Belgium) and Andrey Santos (Brazil) following the departure of veteran Casemiro at the end of last season. United praised Baleba, noting his impressive statistics in the 2024/25 season, including being the sixth-highest in tackles and interceptions among midfielders and the fourth-highest in progressive ball carries per 90 minutes.

The signing aligns with United's interest from the previous year, which they dismissed due to Brighton's asking price. Baleba expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United, calling it an honor to work with manager Michael Carrick and contribute at Old Trafford.
