Browns QB Dillon Gabriel Hit With Unfortunate Prediction

The Cleveland Browns recently announced Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback, leaving Shudeer Sanders and Dillon Gabriel to compete for the third-string position. With the team unlikely to carry four quarterbacks on their roster, some speculate that one of the signal-callers may be released before the regular season begins.

Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport predicts that Gabriel will be the one to go. "Cleveland's crowded quarterback room makes Gabriel's path to a roster spot increasingly uncertain," Davenport noted. "For better or worse, he has clearly fallen behind Sanders and Watson on the depth chart. With rookie Taylen Green also on the roster, it's a numbers game—one Gabriel is losing."

While Gabriel may still land with another team or find a lengthy career as a backup quarterback, his recent preseason performances have been less than impressive. He has completed 5 of 9 passes for 23 yards and an interception in two preseason games. Despite being named the Browns' starter last season after just four games, Gabriel's play on offense stagnated, leading to his benching down the stretch.

With multiple teams in need of a backup quarterback, including the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, and Washington Commanders, Gabriel's future as an NFL player remains uncertain.
