Big-spending Tottenham sign winger Savinho from Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur has made a significant move in the transfer window by signing Brazil winger Savinho from Manchester City. This latest acquisition brings their close-season spending above £300 million, with the club just narrowly avoiding relegation last season. While the exact financial terms and contract length have not been disclosed, British reports suggest the deal is valued at £75 million with additional add-ons totaling £10 million.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed excitement about the signing, praising Savinho's energy, imagination, and quality in wide positions. He highlighted Savinho's ability to attack defenders and his creativity in changing games. De Zerbi added that he is eager to work with Savinho, help him grow, and see him contribute positively to the team.

Savinho began his career at Atletico Mineiro before joining Troyes in 2022. His breakthrough season came on loan at Girona, where he scored 11 goals in 41 appearances, helping the team secure a club-record third place in LaLiga and a Champions League qualification. He subsequently moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2023 and has since made 84 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals.

The 22-year-old has also represented Brazil, earning 13 caps for his country. This signing brings Tottenham's total outlay for the transfer window to £322 million, if the add-ons in the Savinho deal are included. The club aims to revamp the squad following a disappointing 17th-place finish last season in the Premier League. Tottenham started the new campaign with a 3-0 loss to Brentford and will host Championship side Charlton Athletic in the League Cup second round on Wednesday before facing Newcastle United on Saturday.
