Azmin shuts door on PKR return

Former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has dismissed the possibility of rejoining his former party, despite President Anwar Ibrahim's call for former leaders and activists to return. Azmin, who was dismissed from PKR in February 2020 for his role in the Sheraton Move, expressed confidence in Bersatu as the optimal platform for his political career.

The Hulu Kelang assemblyman stated that Bersatu's time would come and urged the party to work sincerely. Bersatu has faced a series of defections since the sacking of its former deputy president, Hamzah Zainudin in February, with Hamzah now leading Wawasan. Earlier this month, PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu, leading the latter to contest the Negeri Sembilan polls under its own name.

At PKR's national congress, Anwar called on the party's veterans to rejoin and continue the struggle for reform. Former PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Dr Xavier Jayakumar have already announced their return, sparking speculation that more former leaders might follow.
