Appointments Committee reschedules vetting of ministerial nominees

The Appointment Committee of Parliament has adjusted the vetting process for President John Dramani Mahama's ministerial nominees to Thursday, August 27, 2026. Originally, the Committee had planned to review the nominees on Tuesday, August 25, as part of evaluating recent presidential nominations. However, the specific reason for the rescheduling is not yet clear.

According to parliamentary correspondent Ohene Amponsah of Adom News, the Committee will now convene on Thursday to evaluate the nominees' qualifications, experience, and suitability for their respective roles. The nominees include Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga, who is nominated for Minister-designate of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

Additionally, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is expected to testify as the nominee for Minister-designate of Environment, Science, and Technology. The Committee's vetting process is an integral part of the constitutional procedure for reviewing presidential nominations before they are presented to the entire House for approval. Following the vetting, the Committee is anticipated to present its findings to Parliament, propelling the nomination process towards eventual approval by the House.
