Antoine Semenyo makes history as first Ghanaian named in PFA Team of the Year

Antoine Semenyo has etched his name in history as the inaugural Ghanaian player to be honored with a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. Manchester City's forward received the prestigious recognition on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the annual PFA Awards ceremony, following his outstanding 2025/26 season performance.

Semenyo joins a distinguished assembly of 15 players, including five from Arsenal, four from Manchester City, Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, and Brentford's Igor Thiago. Arsenal's defensive stalwarts David Raya, Jurriën Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and Declan Rice were acknowledged for creating the league's best defensive record, conceding a mere 27 goals.

Manchester City's squad comprises Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland, and Semenyo. Fernandes solidified his position in the team after breaking the Premier League assist record with an impressive tally of 21 assists, while Thiago was included for his remarkable 22 league goals for Brentford. Semenyo's selection marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian football, as he becomes the first player to be named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
