Analysis: Trump policies to double power sector carbon emissions by 2035

A new analysis reveals that President Donald Trump's policies will double the power sector's carbon emissions by 2035, leading to significant economic and health consequences. The Natural Resources Defence Council's report, titled "An Affordability Crisis of Trump's Making," estimates a loss of $700 billion in clean energy investments over the next decade.

Trump's agenda includes gutting tax credits for clean energy, propping up fossil fuel plants, and stalling permits for wind development. These actions will result in higher electricity bills, up to 25% increases in some regions, and reduced access to renewable energy technologies. The report projects a billion metric tons more carbon dioxide emissions by 2035 compared to a counterfactual scenario, potentially causing up to 69,000 additional early deaths and 85,000 more emergency room visits and hospital admissions over the next decade.
