ACP Joseph Antwi-Ababio retires from police service after 37 years

Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Antwi-Ababio has ended his 37-year career with the Ghana Police Service, marking the end of a distinguished service. Appointed as Director of the Marine, Ports and Railway Department in Takoradi on August 21, 2021, ACP Antwi-Ababio had previously held various positions of responsibility within the service.

His career commenced in 1989, when he joined as a Constable at the Saltpond Police Station, and he later went on to serve at the Police Hospital in Accra. Commissioned into the Senior Officers’ Corps in 2004, he held key roles such as Second-in-Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Division in the Ashanti Region and Operations Officer for the Central Regional MTTD.

ACP Antwi-Ababio's retirement was celebrated with a send-off ceremony in Takoradi, where he was lauded by colleagues for his service, sacrifice, selflessness, dedication, discipline, compassion, and respect for humanity. His legacy was noted to extend across all commands he served, particularly through his mentorship and the high professional standards he set for fellow officers.

Among his notable achievements were contributions to Ghana's National Integrated Maritime Strategy and the commissioning of four 22-metre patrol boats. Beyond his policing career, ACP Antwi-Ababio pursued further education, earning a Master of Business Administration (with merit) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Laws with Second Class Honours from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. He was also enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court in 2023.
