2027: Tinubu Should Speak to Nigerians, Defend Record, Says Obi Media Office

The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to personally engage with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The group criticized the president for allegedly seeking re-election through political surrogates rather than directly answering the electorate's questions and defending his record.

POMR insisted that presidential candidates must stand before Nigerians, address their concerns, and justify their policies and vision for the country. The organization highlighted the president's absence from the National Peace Accord, organized by the National Peace Committee under the leadership of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and described it as disrespectful to the peace efforts.

The POMR also challenged Tinubu to personally explain the performance of his administration since taking office in 2023 if he believes it has been successful. They emphasized that the office, mandate, and accountability belong to the people and should be directly addressed by the presidential candidates. The POMR warned against proxy campaigning and urged Tinubu to abandon it in favor of engaging Nigerians directly, emphasizing that the 2027 election should be a contest of candidates, competence, records, ideas, and character, not just an opportunity for political surrogates to dominate.
