Unlike local platforms such as Shopee and Lazada, Pinduoduo takes up to a month to deliver items, often at prices far below local retailers.

While Malaysian consumers appreciate the cost savings and wider product selection, local business groups argue that Chinese platforms are engaging in predatory pricing by dumping oversupplied factory goods abroad. This has led to margin compression for local SMEs, who compete with lower prices and faster shipping times. The Malaysian government has introduced a 10% tax on imported online goods under RM500 to address the issue and is drafting an E-Commerce Bill to regulate foreign platforms.
