West Asia crisis: Government allows up to 4-month extension for clean energy projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has granted state governments and power sector PSUs up to four months' extension for renewable energy projects delayed by the West Asia crisis. The Force Majeure provisions in power purchase agreements allow for this extension. According to an advisory on August 21, the relief applies to projects with scheduled supply or commissioning dates on or after February 28.

Renewable energy implementing agencies, including SECI, NTPC, NHPC, and SJVN, as well as state and union territory governments, may grant these extensions under the force majeure provisions in PPAs. Requests for time extensions due to disruptions from the West Asia situation should be evaluated by the relevant agencies following their contractual procedures.
