Wendy Williams Documentary Series ‘Clap If You Care,’ From the Host’s Longtime TV Producer, Picked Up at Peacock

Peacock will debut a three-part documentary titled "Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show" in 2027, chronicling the rise and eventual decline of the beloved daytime talk show owned by Williams. The documentary, set to premiere in 2027, examines Williams' journey from radio host to a transformative figure in daytime television.

First airing in 2008, "The Wendy Williams Show" ran for 13 seasons, airing primarily on Fox-owned and operated stations. Williams' unique style, characterized by her flamboyant personality and the fusion of celebrity gossip with serious news, revolutionized the talk show format. Over the years, the series garnered 11 Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including a Creative Arts Emmy Award.

However, "Clap If You Care" delves deeper into the darker aspects of Williams' career. The documentary acknowledges the toll her meteoric rise took on her personal life and career, as well as providing answers to long-standing questions about her unexpected exit from the show. Williams, who was scheduled to host the show's final season, abruptly left due to a COVID-19 infection and subsequent complications from her Graves' disease and thyroid condition, leading to her temporary replacement by several guest hosts, including Sherri Shepherd, who was later endorsed by Williams as an interim host.

The documentary includes interviews with over 20 former "Wendy Williams Show" staff members, offering a candid look at the behind-the-scenes dynamics that shaped the show. Executive producer Suzanne Bass, who served as the executive producer for 13 seasons, joins the team alongside Ian Orefice, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain, and Missy Walker. The documentary is a collaboration between EverWonder Studio, with additional executive producers Chris Witherspoon and Vanessa Golembewski.
