US support for Iran war falls to 31% as Trump approval remains at record low- poll

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll has revealed that US support for the war with Iran has plummeted to its lowest point since the conflict began, contributing to President Donald Trump's record-low approval rating. The survey, conducted over four days, found that only 31% of Americans now support US military action against Iran, a significant decrease from 37% in a March poll and 34% earlier this month.

The decline is primarily attributed to a drop in support among self-identified Republicans, with 69% now backing the conflict, compared to 77% in March.

The war's duration has been dragging down Trump's public standing throughout the year. In a July Reuters/Ipsos poll, 69% of Americans expressed that the president had not clearly explained the goals of US military involvement in Iran. This new poll reveals that just 33% of respondents approve of Trump's performance in the White House, the lowest level in polls from both his first and second terms.

Previously, Trump's approval had fallen to 33% in a previous Reuters/Ipsos poll, matching the lowest approval rating recorded during his first term, reached in December 2017.

A majority of the country, 83%, believes the war will continue for an extended period, up from 80% earlier this month. Based on a survey of 1,215 US adults nationwide, the poll has a margin of error of 3 percentage points in either direction.
