(URGENT) Lee accepts justice minister's resignation: presidential spokesperson

President Lee Jae Myung accepted the resignation of Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho on Monday, according to a presidential spokesperson. This came a week after the minister offered to step down, citing difficulty in continuing his duties due to deteriorating health. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the acceptance of the resignation.

The government aims to appoint Jung's successor swiftly to prevent any disruption in state administration, added Kang. Jung tendered his resignation last week, citing the completion of a prosecution reform bill and his health issues. Following the legislation, prosecutors will have no investigative authority, with all investigative powers remaining with the police.

With Jung's departure, two ministerial positions are now vacant, including that of the minister for small and medium-sized enterprises, which was previously held by Prime Minister Han Seong-sook.
