Tributes pour in for Korean doctor known as 'Schweitzer of Cambodia'

Kim Woo-jung, a Christian doctor from Korea, became a beloved figure in Cambodia for his selfless medical care and dedication to training local health professionals. Kim, the founder and director of Hebron Medical Center in Phnom Penh, passed away on August 14 after a battle with prostate cancer at the age of 73. Hebron Medical Center referred to him as the "Schweitzer of Cambodia," a title that perfectly captures his spirit of selflessness and compassion.

Driven by a desire to provide basic medical treatment to the poor, Kim left behind a successful career in Korea to start his center in 2007. Over the course of nearly two decades, he devoted his life to helping patients and strengthening Cambodia's medical infrastructure by training local doctors and nurses. His impact resonated deeply within the Cambodian community, as evidenced by the outpouring of condolences from mourners on social media and the center's memorial website.

One mourner expressed their heartfelt gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your love to Cambodia, your legacy remains with us." Another survivor shared that Kim had played a crucial role in saving their life 11 years ago. Kim's life and work will forever be remembered and deeply appreciated by the people he touched in Cambodia.
