Thailand has intensified safety operations in three southern provinces – Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala – in response to a series of attacks over the weekend, according to the country's National Safety Commission Deputy Secretary-General Chatchai Bangchuad. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed safety agencies to assess the current situation, while the Government Operation Unit 4 has placed members to monitor the affected areas.

The primary goal is to ensure the safety of locals, shops, and government offices, he said at the Palace on Monday. Last Saturday, a series of arson attacks were reported in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, targeting government buildings, markets, vehicles and utility poles. At least three injuries were reported in Narathiwat. The authorities announced over 50 incidents in the three provinces over the weekend.

Narathiwat was placed under curfew from 10:15 PM Saturday to 6 AM Sunday, followed by dozens of planned incidents across the province on Sunday. No casualties were reported. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Chatchai believes the recent incident is a symbolic retaliation against the government's intensified safety measures following the killing of five border guards in Narathiwat last month.

He warns against linking all incidents to the United Revolutionary Front (BRN), stating that the violence may involve local criminal activities and terrorist networks. Meanwhile, Anutin, who is also a minister of state, convened an emergency meeting with relevant safety agencies on Monday to assess the situation, focusing on risk collection and early warning against shortage of readiness.

The meeting also included Chatchai, Minister of Foreign Affairs Phuangketkeow and Chairman of the National Risk Agency Thanat Suwananon.
