On August 22 and 23, 2026, southern Thailand experienced a series of violent attacks across three provinces - Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani. The attacks, reported by the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward, resulted in damage to over 70 locations, initially highlighted as 51. These incidents included arson, bombings, explosions, and attacks on telecommunications infrastructure.

The violence continued up until Sunday night, with an arson and bombing attack at the Pho Ming Subdistrict Municipal Office in Panare District, Pattani Province. During the incident, a security guard was tied up before three municipal vehicles were set on fire, including a garbage truck and a fire truck. Two explosions were heard, causing alarm among residents, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Narathiwat authorities imposed a curfew between 10:15 p.m. on August 22 and 6 a.m. on August 23 to help control the situation. This unrest culminated in a meeting between Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and senior national security officials, including the Minister of Defense, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, and the ISOC Chief of Staff. The Prime Minister received situation reports on the attacks and later inspected flood relief operations in Nan province.

However, the ISOC dismissed claims of shots being fired from a helicopter during the attacks. They clarified that while helicopters and drones were used for reconnaissance, no weapons were discharged. If automatic weapons had been fired from aircraft, the targeted vehicles would not have been destroyed.
