Textbook supply to PU students delayed: MLC

JD(S) Member of the Legislative Council K. Vivekananda has expressed concern over the delayed delivery of science and language textbooks to students in government pre-university colleges across the state. According to the MLC, students in 131 government colleges in his constituency, which includes Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, and Chamarajanagar districts, have been without these essential materials despite the academic year already being underway.

Vivekananda alleged that language textbooks had also not been supplied to some colleges. When the issue was brought to the attention of officials, he reportedly received no clear response. The MLC emphasized that the government must ensure textbooks are delivered before the commencement of the academic year and that distribution should be completed simultaneously.

Addressing the Legislative Council on Monday, the MLC was informed by School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa that the government had taken note of the non-distribution of textbooks in certain colleges. Bangarappa stated that steps have been taken to distribute the textbooks immediately. According to the Minister, out of the required 27,22,363 copies, 13,72,096 copies have already been distributed.
