Telangana junior doctors support Andhra Pradesh counterparts’ strike for better stipends and academic reforms

The Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (T-JUDA) has expressed solidarity with the Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors’ Association (AP JUDA) in their ongoing strike. AP JUDA has been protesting for a fortnight, demanding improvements in stipends and structural changes to medical education. T-JUDA rejected the Andhra Pradesh government’s proposal of a 5% raise for interns and a 3% annual increase for postgraduate and super-speciality doctors, deeming it insufficient and inconsistent with the existing government order.

The T-JUDA pointed out that a 15% revision in postgraduate stipends was implemented in Telangana in June 2025, while Karnataka had increased resident stipends by 25% as of August 1, 2024. Currently, AP postgraduate stipends have remained unchanged since January 1, 2024. T-JUDA also backed AP JUDA’s calls for reviewing teaching faculty appointments and the retirement age for medical college faculty, suggesting that these adjustments could impact vacancies for newly trained specialists and senior residents.
