Talks between government and striking doctors stalled again in Andhra Pradesh

Negotiations between the Andhra Pradesh government and representatives of the A.P. Junior Doctors’ Association hit another snag on Monday (August 24, 2026), as the striking doctors rejected the proposed 5% hike for MBBS interns, which was one of the government's conditions for resuming talks. Despite the government's initial offer of a 5% hike for interns, along with a 5% increase for interns in the current year and a 3% rise for senior residents and junior doctors in a previous round of negotiations, the doctors remained unconvinced.

They questioned the government's decision to reduce the existing stipend model from a 15% increase every two years to a 3% annual hike, citing financial constraints as the reason for their refusal. The doctors had previously demanded a 30% biennial hike, which they lowered to a 20% hike after the government appealed to them to reconsider.

On the 15th day of the strike, the government summoned the doctors for fresh talks, but no further information on the outcome of these discussions was available.
