Sushi Express begins investigation after customer finds suspected worm in salmon sushi

Sushi Express, a sushi takeout chain in Hong Kong, has launched an investigation following a customer's discovery of a suspected worm in a box of salmon sushi sold at a Tsuen Wan branch. The customer, who shared the incident on social media platform Threads, stated that staff initially denied the presence of the worm, claiming it was not moving.

The customer then left the store despite their insistence. Sushi Express responded on Facebook, stating that they sent a sample for third-party testing and promised to publish the results once available. They emphasized that food safety is their top priority. This is not the first food safety issue Sushi Express has faced. In July, media reported that local branches left cooked rice outside the refrigerator for over 16 hours without proper temperature control.

In May, a customer at a Yuen Long branch bought tamagoyaki that was believed to have mould. Sushi Express apologized for the inconvenience, suspended tamagoyaki sales at the affected branch, and deep cleaned the store.
