Stranded with aged parents after hotel ‘refuses’ dog, family wins Rs 1 lakh payout

A family traveling from Haryana to Darjeeling for a holiday with their elderly parents and a dog won Rs 1 lakh in compensation after a travel agency was found negligent in their services. The Rohtak Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ruled against the agency for changing the itinerary and refusing accommodation to the family due to the presence of the dog.

The family had booked a package deal, which included accommodation, amenities, and transportation for themselves, their parents aged 79 and 81, and the dog. However, the agency altered the hotel arrangements without consent, resulting in the family being stranded and inconvenienced for over eight hours. The commission ordered the travel agency to refund Rs 93,000, pay Rs 10,000 in compensation, and cover Rs 5,000 in litigation expenses within one month.
