Party Secretary-General Park Sung-hun explained that the proposal for re-electing chairpersons came about during the process of reorganizing the party for the next general election, aiming to establish the party's direction and identity.

However, he acknowledged that the situation still requires further reflection before making a final decision. Despite this, Jeong Dong-hyuk insisted that the current proposal does not involve any reduction in the direct election system or a review of the party's foundation. Following the weekend controversy over the decision, the central committee's top officials, including Chairman Kim Dong-wook and Policy Chair Lee Jae-yong, discussed the issue privately for a while.
