Professor 백낙청, a distinguished scholar from Seoul University, criticized the 8·17 Democratic Party National Convention as an attempt to "withhold the power of the presidency" from President 이재명 and his supporters. In a YouTube video, Professor 백 stated that the true essence of the convention was not about conducting a harmonious policy debate, but rather about preventing a "flame protest government" led by President 이재명 and his allies.

He believed that the convention's outcome, described as "mutual surrender," was a necessary step for the Democratic Party. Professor 백 also criticized 유시민, a prominent author and figure in the movement, for pretending to support President 이재명 in order to gain support. He argued that such behavior merely reveals the true nature of his allegiance.

Professor 백 emphasized that the impact of the protest movement extended beyond the initial year of President 이재명's term, highlighting the strong collective intelligence demonstrated by the Yeonggang voters. He further stated that restoring a unified team was not feasible, as the party was composed of individuals with diverse political beliefs.
