Simi Valley football coach fired after incident involving player

Adam Brubaker, the head coach at California's Royal (California) High School, was dismissed following an incident during a practice session. The school's decision came before the start of the season, as per reports from ABC7, Ventura County Star, and USA TODAY.

In the video, Brubaker can be seen expressing frustration with some of his players before kicking a football on the field. The ball he kicked struck a player in the groin area, causing him visible discomfort. Brubaker informed ABC7 that he felt a strong sense of remorse for his actions and later apologized to the player.

The Simi Valley Unified School District made the decision to terminate Brubaker's contract, as confirmed by the Ventura County Star. The coach is no longer listed among the coaches on the MaxPreps website. Assistant coach Cody MacArthur took over interim head coaching duties, according to local reports.

Royal High School secured a 62-0 victory over Monroe of North Hills in their first game of the season, with offensive coordinator Sean Bridgewater handling the play-calling. Quarterback Preston Murray contributed to the win by throwing two touchdown passes.

Murray, speaking to the Ventura County Star, expressed that the team was nervous going into the game but ultimately played well. He added that they were loose, had fun, and executed everything effectively.

The identity of the interim coach for the remainder of the season remains uncertain. Royal High School is set to face Carpinteria this week.
