Sikorski says Russia must finally decide where its borders end

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Moscow's imperial doctrine is the primary issue affecting both Poland and Ukraine. In an interview on Ukraine's Independence Day, Sikorski declared that Poland and Ukraine are determined to never again become Russian colonies. He argued that the use of the term "Russia" instead of "Muscovy" is linked to the conquest and assimilation of Ukraine and the erasure of the legacy of Kyivan Rus.

Sikorski emphasized that Russia has, for centuries, employed conquest and assimilation to subjugate neighboring nations, making the fear of Russia a rational concern. He called for an end to this mechanism of conquest and transformation into "Russians," "Little Russians," or any other designation. Sikorski stressed that Russia must ultimately determine its own borders and cease its efforts to expand at the expense of neighboring countries.

He concluded by stating that both Ukraine and Poland have a vested interest in seeing Russia become a normal nation that respects recognized state borders and invests in its own future.
