#SHOWBIZ: HK actor Ha Yu, 83, laments distant relationship with children: 'Invisible wall'

HONG KONG: Veteran actor Ha Yu, 83, has spoken candidly about feeling estranged from his three adult children. The star, whose real name is Wong Sing, confessed to not considering himself a successful father during an interview with Hong Kong media. Ha and his eldest son, Dixon Wong, a 37-year-old actor, as well as his 34-year-old son and 27-year-old daughter, reportedly maintain a peaceful relationship, but Ha admitted to sensing an invisible barrier between them.

This emotional distance was evident even when they shared a scene together in the drama Under The Rainbow, where their interactions were minimal. Ha Yu revealed that his prolonged absence during his children's formative years had a lasting impact on their bond, making them hesitant to share their deepest thoughts with him now. After marrying in 1988, he chose to stay in Hong Kong to capitalize on his career peak while his wife moved overseas to raise their family.

Ha expressed a certain envy for fathers who have close relationships with their children but maintained that if given a second chance, he would still prioritize working hard to financially support his family. When discussing mortality, Ha expressed a pragmatic view, saying, "I'm not afraid of dying. I'm only afraid of not dying."

He clarified that his greatest fear is becoming severely ill and becoming an excessive burden to others. Regarding his longevity and lifestyle, Ha claimed to have absolutely no secrets, stating that he does not restrict his diet and simply enjoys whatever food he likes.
