Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked golfer, played in the 2026 BMW Championship despite battling hand, foot and mouth disease, which he contracted on August 17. The 2026 BMW Championship took place at Bellerive Golf Course in St. Louis. Scheffler finished the tournament tied for 12th place with a score of 7-under. He had a strong opening round of 2-over and followed it with a 5-under on Friday, his best round at the event.

Scheffler also shot a 2-under on Saturday, matching his final round score. During the event, he experienced blisters on his hands and feet and discomfort in his throat. Despite the illness, Scheffler finished his round with a score of 7-under, and he mentioned that he felt better throughout the week. He expressed that he almost forgot to shake hands with his opponent at the 18th hole due to his throat condition.

Scheffler acknowledged that playing with the illness might have been a poor decision, but he prioritized battling through the tournament. He will now advance to the Tour Championship alongside other top-30 players.
