Samsung SDS to build AI-ready network for Seoul National University

Seoul National University is set to transform its campus network as part of an ambitious project aimed at supporting large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) research and ushering in an AI-native campus environment. Samsung SDS has been awarded the contract to revamp the university's network infrastructure, which spans across 243 buildings and caters to approximately 50,000 students, faculty members, and staff.

The new system will boast network speeds of up to 800 gigabits per second, enabling swift transmission of vast amounts of data essential for AI research and education purposes. Additionally, the project will incorporate logical network segmentation to bolster security measures and implement network automation to enhance overall operational efficiency.

For students, the upgraded network system is expected to deliver more stable connectivity in classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, thereby minimizing disruptions and slowdowns. Researchers and professors will benefit from the higher-bandwidth network, which will facilitate the reliable transfer of large AI training and research datasets. The company asserts that this will streamline the research process and improve collaboration among academics.

IT staff will also gain access to automated tools for device authentication and network management, simplifying their tasks and ensuring a seamless user experience throughout the campus.
