Rockingham Speedway may be on the auction block after missing out on 2027 NASCAR season

In the latest development affecting Rockingham Speedway, the track will likely be put up for sale after being excluded from the 2027 NASCAR season. This marks another setback for a facility that has faced challenges in recent years. The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) currently owns Rockingham, which has struggled financially and is reportedly undergoing a period of instability.

Track Enterprises president Bob Sargent revealed that he has already discussed the possibility of acquiring the track, and believes that a change of ownership could occur within the next 30 to 60 days. Sargent expressed the urgency of the situation, stating that once the property becomes stabilized, there will be further activities in motion.

He jokingly suggested that he would be the sole bidder, should he have the opportunity, and emphasized that Track Enterprises has the necessary resources and readiness to swiftly move forward. While Rockingham will no longer host NASCAR in 2027, the track's recent improvements and history of transformations suggest there could still be potential for a revitalization in the near future.

However, given past occurrences where the track was removed from NASCAR's schedule, there remains uncertainty about whether a successful comeback will be sustainable.
