Rev. Wengam Re-Elected AG Ghana General Superintendent

Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has once again been elected as the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Ghana. During the church's 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting held in Gomoa Fetteh, Central Region, he secured a substantial victory, receiving nearly 90 percent of the valid votes cast. Wengam, who serves as the Head Pastor at Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon, earned 3,727 votes, representing 89.61 percent of the total 4,159 valid votes.

His opponent, Rev. Dr. Kwame B. Bansah from Charity Assemblies of God in Adenta, received 432 votes, accounting for 10.39 percent.

Wengam's re-election marks his second four-year term as General Superintendent, bringing continuity to the church's top leadership. The new leadership team also includes Rev. Dr. Kwadwo Bempah of Holy Hill Chapel as Assistant General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Albert Anane of Father's House as General Secretary, and Rev. Simon Abu Baba of Central Chapel, who retained his position as General Treasurer without opposition.

In departmental elections, Rev. Mrs. Esther Oduro Dwomo was elected as National Women’s Ministries Director, while Mr. Silas Amankwaah and Rev. Michael K. N. Atisu, along with Rev. Henry Kyei Mensah, retained their positions unopposed.

In his acceptance speech, Wengam expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and pledged to serve with renewed commitment, humility, and dedication. He emphasized the importance of unity and unity in leading the church, noting that "one person cannot embrace a baobab tree." The new leadership team will need support from all members, including pastors, deacons, deaconesses, departmental leaders, and church members nationwide.

Wengam outlined his second-term priorities, focusing on advancing the church's transformation agenda, including the Centenary City Project to commemorate the church's 100th anniversary. He reiterated the commitment to evangelism under the MM33 agenda of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, aiming to reach every village, town, and city in Ghana with the Gospel. He also addressed the challenges the church faces, expressing confidence in turning these challenges into opportunities for growth.

As the General Council concludes, attention now shifts to the upcoming World Assemblies of God Fellowship Congress, scheduled to take place in Ghana from October 14 to 16, 2026. This will be the first congress hosted in Africa, with evening programs expected at the Accra Sports Stadium. Wengam urged pastors to mobilize members for strong participation, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with hosting an event of global significance.

He called for reconciliation and unity, urging members to "bury the past, strengthen the bridges of unity, and move forward." In his closing remarks, Wengam thanked his family, wife Lady Mrs. Monica Wengam, the outgoing Executive Presbytery, Elections Committee, and delegates for their support.
