Response only from 20% of site owners, civic bodies to start cleaning vacant plots from August 27: Krishna Byre Gowda

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced that only about 20% of site owners responded to a deadline for clearing vacant plots on August 22. To address this issue, civic officials will begin the cleaning process starting August 27 and intensify efforts from August 31. The cost of cleaning will vary depending on the size of the plot, ranging from ₹25,900 for a 20X30 plot to ₹1,74,700 for a 50X80 plot.

The civic authorities will recover these costs by adding them to property taxes. A feature will be developed on the GBA’s "Clean It" app for citizens to report vacant plots not cleaned by the authorities. Civic officials are being asked to record the before-and-after cleaning process with geo-location data for every plot cleaned by the civic authorities.

Waste and debris generated during the cleaning process will not be dumped along roadsides or on vacant land, but will be sent to designated disposal locations.
