Rescue helicopter hoists trapped hiker from 20-metre El Campello cliff face

This past Saturday, a young man's weekend along the Costa Blanca coastline took an unexpected turn when he became stranded on a steep cliff face in El Campello, roughly 20 meters above the crashing waves. Unable to climb or descend safely, the hiker signaled for help and the emergency call was logged at 6:24pm, triggering an immediate response from the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium.

Recognizing the dangerous terrain, elite rescue units and a search-and-rescue helicopter were sent to the scene. Ground crews found the young man clinging to the cliff's edge, and once the helicopter arrived, emergency responders lowered themselves to his location. The man was secured in a safety harness and hoisted into the helicopter by the skilled team, avoiding what could have been a catastrophic fall.

The entire rescue was completed by 7:00pm, just 36 minutes after the initial alert. The victim was evaluated at the San Vicente del Raspeig fire station, and according to medical assessments, he was completely uninjured thanks to the quick, professional coordination of Alicante’s rescue teams.
