Qatar among world's digital elite

Qatar has maintained its status as one of the world's most digitally connected nations, securing the sixth-highest score of 98.4 out of 100 in the International Telecommunication Union's 2026 ICT Development Index. The Communications Regulatory Authority announced the impressive figure, with Qatar excelling in both Universal Connectivity and Meaningful Connectivity, achieving perfect and near-perfect scores respectively.

In addition, Qatar boasts the second-highest fixed broadband data traffic globally, with average monthly consumption per subscriber reaching nearly 1,000 GB. The foundation of this digital prowess lies in an extensive telecommunications network: 99% of Qatar's population is within reach of 5G networks, and fibre coverage spans an impressive 100%.

While high-income economies approach the limits of what connectivity metrics can demonstrate, Qatar's high score underscores the maturity and effective regulation of its digital ecosystem. This achievement is a testament to Qatar's commitment to fostering an investment-friendly, innovative environment, and aligning its telecommunications sector with the broader national goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Digital Agenda 2030.

The IDI, recognized as the gold standard for connectivity measurement, evaluates countries based on infrastructure, adoption, affordability, and data usage, providing a comprehensive snapshot of a nation's progress towards universal and meaningful connectivity.
