Police warn Yobe politicians, youths against violence ahead of 2027 elections

The Yobe State Police Command has issued a warning to politicians and youth groups against actions that could cause unrest in the region as the 2027 general elections approach. Commissioner Usman Jibrin, while briefing journalists after a State Security Council meeting, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace. The meeting reviewed security across Yobe and devised strategies to enhance law and order.

Jibrin reported significant progress, noting a decrease in various crime categories. However, he expressed worry over emerging political activities, urging politicians to hold peaceful and lawful campaigns. He disclosed that the police had already arrested individuals involved in a disturbance during a campaign by a former Secretary to the State Government and ADC candidate.

Jibrin stressed that no one would be allowed to interfere with political activities, regardless of affiliation. He also cautioned against property destruction and street violence, emphasizing that winning an election through violence is not a solution. Regarding insurgency, Jibrin assured that security agencies were utilizing new strategies and technologies to prevent attacks and respond to emerging threats, promising to safeguard lives and property.
