Police recover stolen phones & laptops in Kayole operation, arrest 2

On a recent day in Laikipia County, police officers successfully recovered 36 sheep that had been stolen from a farm in the Kiamariga area. The theft attempt was interrupted when police were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene, tracking the fleeing suspect. The individual attempted to escape once he realized law enforcement was in pursuit, leaving the sheep behind.

The recovered livestock were promptly taken to Wiyumiririe Police Station for identification and were subsequently returned to their rightful owner. Authorities stated that ongoing investigations are underway to locate and apprehend the person of interest involved in the heist.

This positive outcome highlights the importance of prompt information sharing in enabling police to respond swiftly and effectively to livestock theft incidents. This incident occurred days after a local Member of Parliament announced plans to recruit additional National Police Reservists (NPR) to combat the issue of cattle rustling in the region.

Local resident Sarah Korere emphasized the need for community cooperation with security agencies, noting that cattle rustling often involves individuals within the community who provide criminals with crucial information about potential targets. Korere urged residents to work closely with the police, as trust and collaboration between communities and security forces are vital to curbing this persistent problem.

Korere stressed that while efforts are ongoing to apprehend armed criminals hiding within the Mukogodo Forest, the community itself must also play a part in identifying and reporting individuals suspected of aiding cattle rustlers. She emphasized that while the police continue to pursue suspects hiding in the forest, it is equally important for the community to actively participate in identifying and reporting any individuals suspected of involvement in such crimes.
