Police arrest 5 suspects over robbery and murder of gold buyer at Agona Nkwanta

The Western Regional Police Command has apprehended five individuals in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, around 8:00 p.m., when armed assailants attacked the gold buyer's shop and fatally shot Mr. Kobina in the chest.

He was promptly taken to Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Preliminary investigations, including an examination of CCTV footage, led to the identification of the alleged gang leader, Emmanuel Amponsah, also known as “Vandam”, 29. Police apprehended Amponsah at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta on Friday, August 21.

During his arrest, officers recovered a locally made pistol and two live BB cartridges. Amponsah later fell ill and was transported to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival; the circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed. Further probing into the case resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects within Agona Nkwanta: Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, 30.

A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”, was apprehended in Denkyira Kwaboso, Western North Region. Upon searching Quayeson's residence, authorities found a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses. Quayeson identified Amponsah as the individual who allegedly shot and killed Seth Kobina, and also implicated Thomas Odoom as one of the suspects seen in the CCTV footage during the robbery.

The four surviving suspects are currently cooperating with the police in their investigations. The Western Regional Police Command stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend any other individuals believed to have participated in the robbery and murder.
