Five arrested over robbery and murder of Gold Buyer in Agona Nkwanta

Five suspects have been apprehended by the Western Regional Police Command in connection with the robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold buyer Seth Kobina in Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta, in the Western Region. The violent incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., when armed men stormed the victim's gold-buying shop, fatally shooting him in the chest before fleeing with an undisclosed sum of money. Despite being rushed to Agona Nkwanta Hospital, Kobina succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary investigations, including the analysis of CCTV footage, led investigators to identify Emmanuel Amponsah, alias "Vandam", as the alleged ringleader of the gang. He was apprehended on Friday, August 21, at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. Authorities found a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges during a search of Amponsah, who subsequently fell ill and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Further probing uncovered the arrest of three additional suspects in the Agona Nkwanta area: Christopher Seyiri, alias "Cross and Die", aged 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias "Wale", 30. The fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, alias "Last Burial", was apprehended at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. Upon searching Quayeson's residence, police discovered yet another locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses.

During interrogation, Quayeson implicated both Amponsah and Thomas Odoom as having been involved in the shooting, with Odoom also appearing in CCTV footage of the incident. The five suspects are currently cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation and efforts to identify any other individuals involved in the robbery and murder. The police have pledged to continue their investigation to uncover the complete circumstances surrounding the incident and to bring all responsible parties to justice.
