Peshawar Bridge Built 6 Months Ago Swept Away by Floodwater

A bridge over a drain near Nasir Bagh on Peshawar's Northern Bypass was destroyed by floodwaters just six months after its construction. The flood surge overwhelmed protective embankments surrounding the bridge, causing significant damage to a section of the connecting road. This crucial link between Hayatabad and Karkhano Market, used by hundreds of employees, industrial workers, and residents daily, has now been disrupted along with traffic between the motorway and Ring Road.

The Northern Bypass was previously credited with alleviating congestion in Peshawar, but this disaster has forced thousands to find alternative routes. Despite nearly three months having passed since the bridge was damaged, rehabilitation work has yet to commence. Residents are urgently demanding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Communications and Works Department, National Highway Authority, and Peshawar Development Authority to restore the embankments and reopen the route.

They also request an investigation into the construction quality, with potential punishment for those responsible if the work was deemed substandard. As of now, no timeline has been provided for the bridge's reconstruction.
