Patna-Gomti Nagar Vande Bharat’s window damaged after stone pelting in Bihar, case lodged

On August 23, a stone-pelting incident damaged a window on the Patna-Gomti Nagar Vande Bharat Express near Bihta station in Bihar. The Danapur Division of East Central Railway (ECR) reported the incident, which occurred around 6:40 am. The window glass of Coach C-6 was impacted, as confirmed by the ECR.

Immediate action was taken by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) who registered a case against unidentified individuals under Section 153 of the Railways Act. The investigation is ongoing, with CCTV footage and surrounding area examination underway to identify the culprits. To prevent future incidents, joint patrolling by the RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) has been intensified in the area.

Stone pelting on trains is a criminal offense under Sections 153 and 154 of the Railways Act, 1989. In January, 1,698 such cases were registered across the Indian Railways network between July and December 2025, with 665 arrests made. The Ministry of Railways has warned of severe legal repercussions for those involved in stone-pelting incidents, emphasizing the importance of preventing such acts to ensure passenger safety and protect railway property.
