Opposition principals seal unity pact, vow to back one presidential candidate against Ruto in 2027

Opposition leaders gathered in Kiambu County to sign a unity pact, pledging to back a single presidential candidate in the 2027 general election. The United Alternative Government principals met at the Windsor Hotel on Monday, August 24, 2026, to finalize the Personal Unity Pledge and Coalition Unity Agreement. These agreements aim to prevent divisions as they seek to challenge President William Ruto by submitting a unified candidate.

The principals emphasized their commitment to a broader national agenda and subordinating individual ambitions and party interests. They agreed to participate in a credible process for selecting their presidential candidate and fully support and campaign for the chosen candidate.
