Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatens to cut off electricity to the US

Ontario Premier Doug Ford warned Canada could cut off electricity exports to the United States if the trade war between the two nations escalates further. During a press conference, Ford stated that "everything is on the table" in the trade conflict, including critical minerals, fuel, and electricity. In the past year, Canada has exported $3.3 billion worth of electricity to the US, with major importers including New York, Michigan, and Washington.

Ford emphasized that Canadians are not playing around and that the province needs to work together to pressure the US. He also mentioned other Canadian products, such as oil, nickel, uranium, and potash, that could be targeted in the trade dispute. President Donald Trump has threatened additional tariffs on Canadian goods starting in 2027, including cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel. The White House did not comment on Ford's remarks.
