Norway to give over US$9bil to Ukraine in 2027

Norway intends to allocate an additional NOK85 billion (approximately US$9.2 billion) in financial aid to Ukraine in the fiscal year of 2027, matching the amount provided in 2026, according to a government statement released on Sunday. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere, alongside leaders from various Nordic and Baltic nations, is scheduled to travel to Kyiv on Sunday to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

The Norwegian government's donation will encompass both military and humanitarian expenditures, as stated by Stoere in his speech. Stoere emphasized that supporting and reconstructing Ukraine is not merely assistance, but also an investment in European security. Finland and Ukraine recently concluded a memorandum of understanding for a partnership aimed at manufacturing and developing unmanned systems, along with a letter of intent for collaborative efforts in this field, as reported by Zelensky's office on X.

In a separate development, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the situation, stating that Ukraine's strikes on Russian economic targets have opened a "Pandora's box," and Russia will retaliate against Ukraine's most critical economic sectors. Both nations are intensifying their drone campaigns, targeting each other's economic infrastructure, often impacting areas far from the battlefield, as the conflict has persisted for four and a half years.
