NNPC- SNEPCo Junior Championship: Ogualu Rebounds to Win Girls 16s on a Dramatic Finals Day

Emmanuella Ogualu, a Nigerian-born tennis player based in the Netherlands, joined the NNPC- SNEPCo Junior Championship as a preparation for upcoming international ranking tournaments. She experienced a tough match against the top seed, Gloria Samuel, losing 9-4 and securing second place. However, Ogualu bounced back by winning the cross semifinals and ultimately triumphed in the final match, showcasing her resilience with seven aces and a winning score of 9-7.

The Girls 14s category witnessed an intense and thrilling final, where top-seeded Adesinmi Olayinka's 8-3 lead was undone by Chisimdi Afammbonu's remarkable comeback. Olayinka managed to clinch the tiebreak and secure her victory. The Boys 12 category saw Godwin Afaramai of the Police College Tennis Club emerge victorious, overcoming Divine Ezaka of the Mainland Tennis Club in an exciting match, where Afaramai exhibited tenacity as he pursued every ball, sliding and falling multiple times.

Heman Afaramai, Godwin's elder brother, added to the family's success by winning the Boys 16s category, defeating Calabar Sports Club's Damilola Agunbiade 9-5. Another Abuja-based tennis prodigy, Chimdiuto Obiora, celebrated her birthday during the tournament and claimed the Girls 12s title, defeating Venus Babalola from Ibadan. Obiora and Godwin Afaramai were honored as the most outstanding players of the tournament.

The special guest of honor, America-based former Nigerian national champion, Africa Games medallist, and American Collegiate tennis star, Rolake Olagbegi, praised the tournament's standard at the junior level and expressed confidence in the future of Nigerian tennis. She presented appreciation plaques to the sponsors who were fully represented at the event.
