Newly elected members of AJK Legislative Assembly take oath of office

On Monday, newly elected members of the AJK Legislative Assembly were sworn in by outgoing Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar following the phased elections. Secretary Amjed Latif Abbasi read out the notifications of the 38 members elected through territorial and refugee constituencies, as well as the eight members elected by them on reserved seats.

Upon the announcement of results, all new members took their oath with the outgoing speaker, who did not retain his seat in the elections. They then signed the oath register according to their constituencies.

The PML-N secured five of the seven reserved seats, while the PPP won two. PML-N's Ahmed Raza Qadri moved a motion to suspend certain election rules for the speaker, deputy speaker, and leader of the house, but PPP's Abdul Majid Khan objected as the PML-N had a majority and the session should not be held on Eid-i-Miladun Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The chair dismissed the objection, stating it was not harmful to hold the session on that day.

The PML-N won five seats while the PPP won two of the seven reserved seats. PML-N's Chaudhry Abdul Rehman Arain was declared elected unopposed for the reserved seat for state subjects residing abroad. Reserved seats for women were also won by PML-N's Sehrish Qamar, Maryam Idrees, and Maryam Zaman, and PPP's Farzana Yaqoob. The seat for Ulema and Mashaikh was won by PML-N's Mohammad Mazhar Saeed, while the seat for technocrats and professionals was claimed by PML-N's Barrister Syed Iftikhar Gillani.
