Motoring influencer among eight remanded over viral illegal racing video on Linkedua Highway

An influencer who shares his passion for cars found himself among eight individuals remanded for four days. This took place following a viral video showing an illegal motorcycle race on the Linkedua Highway in Kulai, Malaysia. The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday. The remand order was issued by Magistrate R Salini after a police application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The order aimed to support investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. This law deals with dangerous and reckless driving.

Eight suspects, ranging in age from 26 to 45, were detained for the alleged event. They were transported to the Kulai Court complex around 8:30am. The suspects donned face masks, with two of them, including the influencer, donning hoodies to prevent media recording. The police seized the suspects at 11:54am from a car packed with officers and personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division based in Kulai District. The arrests came after the video of the race circulated on social media.

The 33-second video showed two motorcyclists apparently racing illegally on the highway at roughly 7am. The stretch between Kilometre 33, close to the Senai Utara toll interchange, and Kilometre 31, near the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) interchange, is where the race likely took place. The footage also depicted several people seemingly blocking the highway to permit the race.

After the race ended, the suspects are alleged to have set off firecrackers to celebrate. Among them was the influencer, who was seen standing on the road shoulder.
