Mir Raza death: SHC forms judicial commission despite family’s opposition

Sindh High Court has created a judicial commission to probe the murder of Karachi businessman Mir Raza, despite his family's objections. Justice Umar Sial leads the commission, with the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court confirming his appointment via a notification. The SHC Directorate has also alerted the Sindh Home Department about this action.

Mir Raza's family had previously sought the establishment of a joint investigation team (JIT) instead of a judicial commission, but their request was denied. The family's lawyer, Jibran Nasir, expressed concerns over the police's progress and evidence handling, questioning the preservation of CCTV footage and the alleged negligence of officials.

He also highlighted that the government had not formally informed the family about the nomination of a high court judge for the judicial commission. Jibran suggested an empowered JIT with representatives from various security and intelligence agencies instead. The court extended Mir Raza's business partner, Muhammad Ahmed's, interim bail until September 1.

Ahmed's attorney argued that business partners often face false accusations, and his client had been summoned multiple times to the police station. However, the family's lawyer denied this claim, stating that Ahmed was not facing imminent arrest and that his presence was crucial for the investigation.
