Meghan Markle will call the shots over acting comeback

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, may set limits on her potential acting role in Guy Ritchie's Netflix crime series, The Gentlemen. After rumors of a return to television, Meghan is rumored to be discussing a possible third season of Ritchie's show as the family prepares to move to Britain with Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, discussions are advanced, yet no contract has been signed, and no character has been finalized, nor has Netflix officially renewed The Gentlemen for a third season. The Sun reported Meghan could play a temptress on the show, although this description has not been confirmed by Netflix.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers believes Meghan may impose restrictions on the character she plays. He believes she will likely avoid raunchy scenes, stating "I suspect that there won’t be sort of raunchy scenes and things, but I could be wrong, I think it’s very unlikely because I think that she will consider that her mere presence in the series will justify the fee that she will be being paid and therefore there’s no need to go too far."

Vickers also stated that Meghan could seek contractual boundaries if negotiations progress. "Knowing her ways, I’m sure she will stipulate all sorts of things and I think she is capable of putting all sorts of boundaries up," he said. However, he believes actors are expected to follow instructions in these series, saying "If it demands somewhat more, I don't know how to put it, more sort of inappropriate, perhaps that’s the right word, appearance by her, then I guess that will possibly happen."

Meghan, known for her role as paralegal Rachel Zane in the US legal drama Suits, has appeared in various films and TV shows, including CSI: NY, 90210, Horrible Bosses, Anti-Social, When Sparks Fly, and Dater's Handbook. She recently returned to acting with a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends. The Gentlemen, starring Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, and Daniel Ings, will release its second season on Netflix on September 3.

Vickers also questioned Prince Harry's potential influence over Meghan's choice of acting roles, stating "I imagine she’ll do exactly what she wants, regardless of what Prince Harry thinks."
