KTMB adds eight KTM Komuter Utara train services for holidays, National Day

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will introduce eight extra KTM Komuter Utara services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar route during the school holidays and National Day celebrations, taking place from Thursday until Monday (August 27 to 31). The additional trains, introduced through the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, are designed to handle the anticipated increase in passenger demand.

According to KTMB, these extra services will raise the total daily services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route from 38 to 46. The surge in passenger numbers is expected to grow by 30 percent compared to regular days. The additional trains will be able to accommodate up to 5,000 extra passengers daily, equating to 25,000 passengers over the five-day period.

Of the eight new services, four will operate on the Padang Besar-Butterworth route, increasing the daily trips to 23 from the usual 19. Four other additional services will run on the Butterworth-Padang Besar route, raising its daily total to 23. These extra services are part of KTMB's proactive efforts to expand public transport capacity and provide passengers with more travel options across Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.
